Shown to the left is Endal and his pup, Endal Junior. Endal was a male Labrador Retriever who was a service dog to Allen Parton. In the late 1990s, Allen Parton adopted Endal when he became a disabled ex-Royal Navy Chief Petty Officer. He adopted Endal after he suffered serious head injuries while serving in the Gulf, including 50% memory loss and use of a wheelchair. Endal understood and was able to respond to over 100 commands.

In 2001, Allen was knocked out of his wheelchair by a car. Endal then pulled unconscious Allen into the recovery position, retrieved his cell phone from under the car, carried a blanket and covered him, barked at bystanders for help, and ran to a close hotel to get help. Endal has been given a total of 10 awards, one being the PDSA Gold Medal in 2002, the animal equivalent of the George Cross. The medal is awarded to to animals who’ve shown outstanding devotion to their duties in peace time.
